In six months, I will have been at the same company, full time, for three years at the same position (Junior Developer) and salary as when I started. I decided to make a change that will push me closer to my career goals.
Over the last year, I’ve taken on multiple solo projects, completed them under budget, increased our client base, and brought new ideas to expand the services of the company.
My goal is to expand my career into the Information/Cyber Security field. And I’ve narrowed it down to 3 options.
- Get certified through current job, and continue working while incorporating security into services offered. (Not my career goal, but a start)
- Go back to school and get my masters in Cyber Security and apply for internship with FBI (Cyber Division is my career goal) (Costs me $25k)
- Enlist into military and gain training and experience in career similar to my goal. (Also takes care of my student loans)
So basically, spend nothing and stay pretty much the same, spend a lot to possibly reach goal, or get my loans paid off and get a job similar to goal but give up everything I have.
